Men's Golf Bestows GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award

NORMAN, Okla. — The Hartford men's golf team was recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) for its academic success, as the Hawks were one of 142 Division I programs to take home an Outstanding Team Academic Award from the organization.

In total, 250 teams across Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, NJCAA I and NJCAA II received All-Academic Team distinction after combining for a team GPA of 3.0 or above at the conclusion of the 2019-20 academic year.

Five student-athletes stood out in helping lead the Hawks to GCAA All-Academic Team recognition. Rising sophomore Manuel Romero, rising junior Jared Winiarz, rising seniors Eric Evans and Ryan Tomaso and recent graduate Elias Gross earned Big Sky Conference All-Academic Team honors earlier last month, an award that requires a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA.

Evans, Gross and Tomaso also took home additional hardware this month, as they were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the GCAA. That award recognizes individual excellence, both in the classroom and on the links.
