Hawk Talk with Women's Basketball's Breyenne Bellerand

Breyenne Bellerand, a senior forward, has made an immediate impact in her first season with the Hartford women's basketball team. The Brooklyn native spent three seasons at James Madison before transferring to Hartford, becoming eligible for the 2020-21 season due to a waiver from the NCAA.

Bellerand didn't take long to make her presence felt for the Hawks, scoring 12 points in her first start for Hartford in the team's second game of the season against Maine on Dec. 23. She went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and added two assists in the three-point loss against the Black Bears.

Since joining the starting lineup after the first game, Bellerand has found herself as a reliable scoring option for the Hawks. In Hartford's 64-54 win over Binghamton on Jan. 2, the senior scored a career-high 16 points while adding five rebounds. The senior has also made her impact on the defensive end as well, as she registered a career-high four steals in Hartford's loss against UMass Lowell this past Sunday.

Bellerand enters this weekend's series at NJIT as Hartford's second leading scorer with 8.6 points per game. She adds 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 24.4 minutes per game.

Jeff Dooley, the voice of the Hartford Hawks, had a chance to catch up with the Hawks' veteran forward in the interview below.
