Men's Golf Concludes Fall Slate with ODU/OBX Intercollegiate

POWELL'S POINT, N.C. — After a 21-day hiatus, the Hartford men's golf team returns to action with the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Intercollegiate. The tournament, which serves as Hawks' 2021 fall season finale, features a competitive field of 17 teams from across the nation.
 
Hosted by Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powell's Point, N.C., the Hawks begin the three-day event on Sunday at 9:15 a.m.

HARTFORD QUICK HITS
  • After opening the 2021-22 slate with four local tournaments, Hartford's fall season finale lands the Hawks outside of the Northeast for the first time this season
  • Through four tournaments, the Hawks have combined for a scoring average of 297.64, which is the sixth-lowest team score in program history
  • Hartford's fall slate is highlighted by the Ryan T Lee Memorial Collegiate, where the Hawks tied for fifth among a 15-team field
  • Jared Winiarz has gotten his senior season off to a hot start, shooting under-par in four rounds, including two rounds in the 60s
  • Hartford's top finisher at the Hartford Hawks Invitational (8th place), he leads the team with a career-low 74.55 stroke average   
  • Sophomore Conor Byrne, who tied for 20th to pace the Hawks' lineup at The UConn Invitational, is second on the team with a 74.73 scoring average
  • Freshman Conor Zimmerman, who has competed in all four tournaments, ranks third in scoring average with a 74.82
 
HISTORY LESSON
  • The Hawks placed 10th in the last running of the ODU/OBX Invitational, in 2019
  • Junior Manuel Romero posted his first career top-10 finish at the tournament, tying for ninth place
  • He turned in three sub-par rounds, including two career-low rounds of 69, to finish with a career-best 54-hole total of 209 (-4)
  • North Dakota State took top-billing at the event, finishing four strokes ahead of runner-up and host-team Old Dominion with an 826 (-26)
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Hartford placed 12th at the UConn Invitational, held earlier this month (Oct. 3-5)
  • Byrne tied for 20th after combining for a 54-hole score of 7-over 223 
  • Freshman Bryce Zimmerman had a solid tournament as an individual, posting a team-best 15th-place finish
  • The rookie landed his first career top-15 effort after turning in a 6-over 222
