BOSTON — Thomas Webley from the Hartford men's basketball team was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the organization announced on Monday. A native of Christchurch, New Zealand, he received the distinction for the second time in his career after averaging 7.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in Hartford's 1-1 week.
A center, Webley opened the week by putting up career-best numbers in Saturday's 67-57 defeat to NJIT. Shooting 4-of-5 from the field, he matched his career high with 10 points and added a career-best eight rebounds in 24 minutes. On Sunday, he contributed four points to Hartford's 75-61 win against the Highlanders.
In 18 appearances, Webley is averaging 3.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game for the Hawks.
Three different Hawks have earned a weekly award from the America East in 2020-21. Senior
Austin Williams (Player of the Week) and Webley (Rookie of the Week) each earned weekly recognition on Dec. 7, becoming the first Hartford tandem to sweep the league's awards since 2005. Grad student
