BALTIMORE, Md. — Despite having six different players tally a goal, the Hartford women's lacrosse team fell to UMBC on the road, 25-7, at UMBC Stadium Saturday.
Debbie Phillips scored two goals to pace the offense, while
Megan Miller,
Shannon Tuozzo,
Kaitlyn D'Andrea,
Birdie Montes and
Katy Ravizza tallied one goal apiece.
With the defeat, the Hawks fall to 0-2 (0-2 AE) on the season, while UMBC improves to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the America East.
UMBC 25, HARTFORD 7
With the score knotted at 1-1 in the first stanza, UMBC scored three consecutive goals to take a 4-1 lead. Miller halted the run with a free-position goal to trim the deficit to 4-2 with 20:31 to go before the break. After UMBC went up 5-2, Phillips snuck one into the back of the net on a Montes feed for her second goal of the half. However, the Retrievers outscored the Hawks, 10-1, to close out the half with a 15-4 lead.
Leading by 11, the Retrievers outscored the Hawks 5-1 to open the second half, essentially putting the contest out of reach.
