Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight with Doubleheader Sweep of Binghamton

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Combining for 44 kills between two matches, sophomore Maddie Lindsay led the Hartford volleyball team over Binghamton 3-0 and 3-1, on Wednesday afternoon inside the Hartford Volleyball Gym. 
 
With the wins, Hartford improves to 4-0 overall and in the America East, while Binghamton drops to 0-6 on the season in conference-play.

HARTFORD 3, BINGHAMTON 0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-20)
  • SET ONE: With the two sides playing to an early 9-9 tie, Hartford exploded for a 14-5 run to take a commanding 23-14 lead. Binghamton scored two straight to bring the score to 23-16, however, back-to-back kills from Brittany Braun and Lindsay secured the first set for the Hawks.
  • SET TWO: Leading 7-6 in the second set, Hartford took 10 of the next 14 points to jump out to a 17-10 lead. After Hartford pushed its lead 23-15, Binghamton marched back taking five straight points to trim the deficit to 23-20. The Bearcats cut it as close as 24-22, but Lindsay's kill on set point brought the set win home for the Hawks.
  • SET THREE: Hartford and Binghamton traded points to open up what proved to be the final set. But with Hartford trailing 18-16, the Hawks hit their stride, using a 5-1 run to open up a 21-19 advantage. The Bearcats cut it to 21-20, but four straight points by the Hawks secured the set and match win. 
  • NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Lindsay compiled 21 kills with an impressive .588 hitting-percentage … Abby Nash added 17 kills … Megan Anderson added a game-high 40 assists … Brittany Braun led the way with four blocks.
 
HARTFORD 3, BINGHAMTON 1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-17, 25-19)
  • SET ONE: The Hawks took an early eight-point lead, jumping out to a 13-5 advantage. Binghamton took the next three points to bring the deficit to 13-8, however, the Hawks responded with an 8-3 run to push its lead to double-digits before taking the set 25-15.
  • SET TWO: The two sides played to a 7-7 tie before Hartford rallied for three straight points to take a 10-7 lead. The Bearcats came back to tie the set at 11-11 before the Hawks responded with a second 3-0 rally to push up 14-11. However, Binghamton went on an 11-2 run to take a 21-16 lead. The Hawks cut it to as close as three points before the Bearcats would hang on to take the set.
  • SET THREE: Tied at 10-10 in the set, Hartford went on a 10-3 run to take a 20-13 lead. Binghamton cut it to seven at 24-17, but Braun's kill secured the set win for Hartford.
  • SET FOUR: Hartford immediately jumped out to a six-point lead (11-5) and never looked back. After Hartford built its lead to 20-9, Binghamton attempted a comeback, marching back to trim the deficit to 23-19. However, a kill from Lindsay and a service ace from Greta De Gasper secured the set and match.
  • NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Lindsay compiled 23 kills to lead both sides … Nash added 22 kills in the win … Anderson tallied a game-high 47 assists … Alex Lucero led both sides with 17 digs.
 
NEXT ON TAP
The Hawks will be back in action on Sunday, March 21, when they travel to UAlbany for a doubleheader against the Great Danes and Stony Brook. The first match against UAlbany is set for 11 a.m., with the Stony Brook match following at 3 p.m.
