Volleyball Falls to UAlbany & Stony Brook on Sunday Afternoon

ALBANY, N.Y. — The Hartford volleyball team fell to UAlbany (3-0) and Stony Brook (3-1) in a doubleheader inside the University Gym on Sunday afternoon. Abby Nash led both matches with a combined 34 kills while Megan Anderson recorded 64 assists.
 
With the losses, Hartford falls to 4-2 overall in the America East, while UAlbany improves to 7-0 and Stony Brook moves to 4-3 on the season in conference-play.
 
UALBANY 3, HARTFORD 0 (18-25, 20-25, 22-25)
      SET ONE: After UAlbany jumped out to an early 8-4 lead, Hartford scored three straight points to cut the Great Danes lead to one. UAlbany would then go on a 9-3 run, extending their lead to 17-10. The Great Dane advantage would be too much for the Hawks as UAlbany took the first set, 25-18.
      SET TWO: The two teams would battle back and forth in the second set, trading points as the game reached a 12-12 tie. UAlbany would respond with a 6-0 run to take a 18-12 lead, before Hartford ended the Great Danes surge with kills from Maddie Lindsay and Robin Helms. The Hawks cut it as close as 22-19, but ShaLi Nu's kill on set point brought the set win home for UAlbany.
     SET THREE: Hartford would open up the third set with a pair of service aces by Megan Anderson. UAlbany would battle back and the two teams went back and forth, to even the score at 17-17. The Hawks would use kills from Lindsay and Abby Nash to cut the deficit to 21-20, but a 4-2 run by the Great Danes secured the set and match win.
      NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Nash led the Hawks with a game-high 18 kills … Helms added nine kills on a .500 hitting percentage … Megan Anderson added a game-high 32 assists … Kaleigh Fitzgerald led the way with 11 digs.
 
STONY BROOK 3, HARTFORD 1 (13-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-25)
      SET ONE: The Seawolves took an early 11-point lead, jumping out to a 14-3 advantage. Hartford took the next three points to cut the deficit to single digits and used a 5-0 run to get as close as 21-13. However, Stony Brook utilized a 4-0 run to take the set 25-13.
      SET TWO: Stony Brook again jumped out to an early lead, taking an 8-5 advantage before going on an 8-0 run to take a 16-5 lead. Hartford would try and fight back, however, the early Stony Brook lead was too much to overcome as the Seawolves took the second set, 25-15.
      SET THREE: After trading points to open the set, Hartford went on a 3-0 run off of kills from Brittany Braun, Lindsay and Nash to take a slim, 8-7 lead. Stony Brook would respond with a 9-1 run to retake the lead, holding a 16-9 advantage. The Hawks would then go on a 6-0 run, to cut the deficit to one, and would eventually reach a 22-19 disadvantage. Hartford would then score six of the next seven points, utilizing two kills from Nash to win the third set, 25-23.
      SET FOUR: Hartford immediately jumped out to a three-point lead (4-1), however Stony Brook would respond with a 9-0 run to take a 10-4 lead. The two teams would then continue to trade points back and forth until Stony Brook scored three unanswered to gain a 18-9 advantage. Leoni Kunz would then seal the win for the Seawolves after recording a kill on match point.
      NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Nash compiled 16 kills to lead both sides … Lindsay added 11 kills in the win … Anderson tallied a team-high 32 assists … Alex Lucero led both sides with 21 digs.
