Volleyball Drops Doubleheader Against UAlbany & Stony Brook

ALBANY, N.Y. — The Hartford volleyball team fell to UAlbany (3-0) and Stony Brook (3-1) in a doubleheader inside the University Gym on Sunday afternoon. Maddie Lindsay led both matches with a combined 28 kills while Megan Anderson recorded 76 assists.
 
With the losses, Hartford falls to 4-4 overall in the America East, while UAlbany improves to 9-0 and Stony Brook moves to 5-4 on the season in conference-play.
 
UALBANY 3, HARTFORD 0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-17)
  • SET ONE: The two sides played to a 15-15 tie in the set before UAlbany went on a 4-0 run to push up 19-15. Hartford countered with a 6-0 run of its own, sparked by a kill by Abby Nash. However, the Great Danes closed the match with a 6-0 run of their own to take the set, 25-21.
  • SET TWO: Backed by kills from Brittany Braun, Lindsay and Nash, Hartford jumped out to an early 8-2 advantage. After UAlbany fought back to tie the match at 10-10, the two sides traded leads to a 20-20 tie. However, UAlbany took five of the next six points to secure the set. 
  • SET THREE: Hartford and UAlbany traded points to open up what proved to be the final set. But with the Hawks leading 10-16, the Great Danes hit their stride, using a 13-3 run to open up a 20-13 advantage. The deficit proved to be too great for Hartford, as it eventually fell, 25-17. 
  • NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Lindsay tallied a game-high 14 kills … Nash added nine kills and seven digs … Anderson added a game-high 30 assists.
 
STONY BROOK 3, HARTFORD 1 (25-16, 25-20, 24-26, 25-21)
  • SET ONE: Stony Brook jumped out to an early 10-4 lead, before eventually pushing it to 20-13. The deficit proved to be too great for Hartford, as it fell 25-16 in the first set.
  • SET TWO: The two sides played to a 10-10 tie in the set before the Seawolves went on a 5-0 run to take a 15-10 lead. Hartford eventually battled back to tie the set at 18-18, capped by a kill from Nash. However, Stony Brook closed the set with a 7-2 run to take the second set.
  • SET THREE: The two sides traded points to a 16-16 tie before Hartford jumped out to a 20-18 advantage. With the set tied at 24-24, back-to-back kills from Anderson and Nash secured the set victory for the Hawks.
  • SET FOUR: Trailing 17-14, the Seawolves went on a 8-1 run to take a 22-18 lead. Despite the Hawks cutting the deficit to as close as 22-21, Stony Brook would go on to take the next three points to take the set and match.
  • NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Lindsay and Nash led the Hawks with 14 kills apiece … Anderson tallied a team-high 46 assists … Kaleigh Fitzgerald led both sides with 29 digs.
 
NEXT ON TAP
The Hawks will be back in action on Sunday, March 28, when they travel to take on UMBC in a doubleheader to close the regular season. The first match against UMBC is set for 11 a.m., with the Stony Brook match following at 3 p.m.
