Landymore Nets First Career Hat Trick as Men's Lacrosse Falls at #15/16 Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. — The Hartford men's lacrosse team battled, but a late three-goal run by #15/16 Vermont secured a 14-9 victory for the Catamounts Saturday afternoon on Virtue Field. Freshman Ethan Landymore tallied three goals and an assist to pace the Hawks, who dip to 0-4 on the season, and in the America East.

Michael McCormack led all scorers with six points behind a five-goal effort. With the win, Vermont (4-2 overall) remains undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 record.

#15/16 VERMONT 14, HARTFORD 9
Stellar play by both goalies led to the Catamounts taking a 2-1 edge at the end of the first quarter. Junior goalie Cam Logan made three early saves in that stretch for the Hawks, who led 1-0 on a Christian Paley goal just 62 seconds after the game's first faceoff. Vermont would strike first in the second quarter, but Hartford stormed back to take a 4-3 advantage with 4:50 to go until halftime on three straight goals from grad student Ryan Lovell, Paley and Landymore.

The lead proved to be short-lived for the Hawks, though. Just six seconds after Landymore's goal, Tommy Burke tied up the game on his first goal of the season. That tally sparked a 4-0 Catamounts' run that stretched into the second half and gave Vermont a 7-4 advantage with 9:34 remaining in the third.

Outscoring the Catamounts, 3-1, over the first nine minutes of the final quarter, Hartford trimmed a 10-6 deficit down to two with 5:48 left to play. But Vermont held off the Hawks' comeback bid, as McCormack struck twice within a one-minute span before Thomas McConvey sealed the five-goal victory with 3:17 remaining.
