WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team was swept in its doubleheader with Maine at home, dropping the opener, 15-0, before falling, 6-2, in the nightcap on Saturday afternoon at Fiondella Field.
With the losses, the Hawks dropped to 16-17 on the season and in the America East, while the Black Bears improved to 18-18 on the campaign and 14-15 in the America East.
GAME ONE: MAINE 15, HARTFORD 0
The Black Bears struck first for two runs in the top of the second to jump out to an early 2-0 advantage. Maine added to its lead with nine runs in the third inning to push its lead to 11-0.
The deficit proved to be too much for the hawks, as they eventually fell, 15-0.
GAME TWO: MAINE 6, HARTFORD 2
The Hawks struck first for two runs in the first inning to take the early advantage. Sophomore Tremayne Cobb Jr. got the offense started with an RBI single to put the Hawks up 1-0. Hartford pushed its lead to 2-0 after sophomore Derek Tenney scored from third on a Maine throwing error.
However, Maine responded with two runs of its own in the second inning to knot the contest at 2-2. The Black Bears added three runs in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead late in the game. The lead proved to be too much for the Hawks, as they eventually fell, 6-2.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Senior pitcher Nicholas Dombkowski (4-2) got the start and took the loss in game one, allowing five earned runs on five hits in two innings of work
- Junior Donnie Cohoon provided the lone hit in game one for the Hawks
- Junior Tim Blaisdell (3-3) got the start and took the loss in the nightcap, tossing a complete game
- Blaisdell allowed four earned runs on 10 hits and struck out five
- Cobb Jr. led the offense with two hits an an RBI
- Senior Drew DeMartino added a hit, a run scored and two walks in game two

The Hawks return to action on Sunday, May 16, when they close its four-game home series against Maine with a contest set for an 11 a.m. start at Fiondella Field.
