LOWELL, Mass. – The Hartford baseball team was swept in its doubleheader with UMass Lowell on the road, dropping the opener, 7-4, before falling, 7-1, in the nightcap on Friday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.
With the losses, the Hawks dropped to 16-20 on the season and in the America East, while the River Hawks improved to 19-26 on the campaign and 18-18 in the America East.
GAME ONE: UMASS LOWELL 7, HARTFORD 4
The Hawks struck first after sophomore Derek Tenney's RBI groundout plated Drew DeMartino from third to give Hartford a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Sophomore Tremayne Cobb Jr. followed with an RBI single up the middle to score John Thrasher to give the Hawks an early 2-0 advantage.
With runners in scoring position in the second inning, redshirt junior Tim Dickson lined a two-run single to the outfield to double the Hawks' lead to 4-0. The River Hawks responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the second to trim Hartford's lead to 4-1.
UMass Lowell added four runs in the fourth inning and two in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead, holding on for the three-run victory.
GAME TWO: UMASS LOWELL 7, HARTFORD 1
The River Hawks struck first for two runs in the second inning to jump out to a 2-0 advantage. UMass Lowell added a run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings to push its lead to 4-0.
Hartford tallied a run in the eighth behind Tenney's RBI single, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks eventually fell, 7-1.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Graduate student pitcher Nathan Florence (3-3) got the start and took the loss in game one, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits in six innings of work
- Florence added eight strikeouts in the outing
- Dickson led the offense with two RBI
- Tenney and Cobb Jr. added an RBI apiece in the loss
- Senior pitcher Nicholas Dombkowski (4-3) got the start and took the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits in seven innings
- Dombkowski added 11 strikeouts in his outing
- Tenney led the offense with three hits, a stolen base and an RBI in the nightcap

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, May 21, when they close its regular season with a doubleheader against UMass Lowell. First pitch from LeLacheur Park is set for a noon start.
