Dombkowski Tosses No-Hitter, as Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Hartford baseball team split its doubleheader with UAlbany on the road, dropping the opener, 3-2 in eight innings, before claiming a 4-0 victory in the nightcap on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field.

With the split, the Hawks moved to 15-13 on the season and in the America East, while the Great Danes moved to 16-19 on the campaign and 14-14 in the America East.

Senior pitcher Nicholas Dombkowski tossed the program's second no-hitter in Div. I era, logging nine no-hit and shutout innings in the Hawks' 4-0 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: UALBANY 3, HARTFORD 2
The Hawks struck first in the opening inning after Derek Tenney's single plated John Thrasher to jump out to an early 1-0 advantage. However, UAlbany struck for two runs in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.

With one out in the sixth inning Tenney drilled a double to left, followed by an RBI single from Nik Pagan to knot the contest at 2-2. However, UAlbany scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to take the walk-off win, 3-2.

GAME TWO: HARTFORD 4, UALBANY 0
The two sides remained scoreless through five innings, until Hartford broke through for a run behind Zachary Ardito's RBI groundout in the sixth inning. The Hawks made it a 2-0 game when Daniel Burnett immediately followed with an RBI single. Hartford made it 3-0 in the eighth, after Thrasher scored on a wild pitch from third base. Tim Dickson would score on a wild pitch as well in the ninth to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead.

Dombkowski tossed a complete-game no-hitter en route to his fourth victory of the season. Dombkowski becomes just the second pitcher under head coach Justin Blood to toss a no-hitter since Hartford first round draftee in 2014, Sean Newcomb, threw a complete game no-hitter in 1-0 victory over Yale on March 24, 2012. Dombkowski became just the first Hawk pitcher in the Div. I era to toss a no-hitter in nine innings, as Newcomb's was done in seven innings.
