BOSTON – The America East Conference has announced that 14 student-athletes from the University of Hartford have been named America East Presidential Scholar-Athletes for their outstanding academic achievements throughout their entire careers. The award recognizes graduating student-athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher as an undergraduate student.
The Hawks' award winners are led by
Abby Myers of women's track and field and
Jenna Pupillo of women's lacrosse, as they finished with the highest GPAs in this year's senior class after posting perfect 4.0 cumulative marks.
The other award winners included
Megan Anderson,
Lacey Zadra and
Abby Nash from volleyball,
Elizabeth Lodge from women's track and field,
Kiana Harris and
Danielle Rocheleau from softball,
Hunter Marks from men's basketball,
Jordan Smith,
Debbie Phillips, and
Kaitlyn D'Andrea from women's lacrosse,
Nina Farkic from women's basketball and Christian Paley from men's lacrosse.
A total of 107 America East student-athletes received the accolade for the 2020-21 season, with Vermont taking the title for the most honorees in the league (20). UAlbany trailed with the second-most honorees with 15, followed by Binghamton (15) and Hartford (14). NJIT ranked fifth with 11 honorees, followed by Maine and UMass Lowell tying for sixth with 10. New Hampshire and UMBC followed closely with nine honorees apiece, while Stony Brook finished with seven.
The Presidential Scholar-Athlete Award was approved by the America East Board of Presidents in June 2013 and implemented for the 2013-14 academic year. In total, 533 elite student-athletes have been honored as part of the program.
