Tomaso Highlights Big Sky Academic Awards with Scholar-Athlete Honors

OGDEN, Utah — Senior Ryan Tomaso highlights a slew of members of the Hartford men's golf team that have recently received academic awards from the Big Sky Conference. A four-year member of the Hawks, Tomaso, who was named a Big Sky Scholar Athlete of the Year by the organization, joined eight other men's golfers in receiving Big Sky All-Academic Team honors.

To be eligible for this Scholar-Athlete recognition, the student-athlete must have exhausted his or her intercollegiate athletic eligibility and/or be a member of the graduating class, earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0) scale, been a participant in a Big Sky-sponsored sport, completed at least two (2) years of intercollegiate competition at the institution.

A native of Milford, Mass., Tomaso had a sensational senior season for the Hawks in 2020-21. In eight events, he recorded a 74.73 stroke average with three top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish at the Hartford Invitational at Wintonbury Hills. Tomaso fired a 66 (-6) at that tournament, which marked a season-low round for the veteran.

Tomaso finished his four-year career with a 75.00 stroke average over 88 rounds and 35 events. He was just as impressive in the classroom, graduating with a 3.39 cumulative GPA as a marketing major.

"Ryan has been the epitome of a great student-athlete here for four years," said head coach Pete Stankevich. "He has done great things on the golf course, and in the classroom. Nobody works harder both on and off the links, and he is a great team leader with his enthusiasm and energy for college golf. He is very deserving of this award and recognition."

Joining Tomaso on the Big Sky All-Academic Team are freshmen Michael Amari and Jack Ritchie Roux, sophomores Conor Byrne and Manuel Romero, junior Jared Winiarz, seniors Eric Evans and Matthew Schwab, and graduate student Elias Gross.

With nine honorees, Hartford tied Northern Colorado for the most All-Academic Team selections among the seven-member conference. In addition, the Hawks' nine All-Academic Team members are a program-best.

To qualify for the Big Sky All-Academic Team, student-athletes must own at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA. They also must have completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.
