WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — A first-half goal from sophomore
Kelly Severini propelled the Hartford women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory against St. Francis Brooklyn on Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium on Saturday evening. With the home-opening victory, the Hawks improve to 2-0-0 on the season.
With the defeat, the Terriers drop to 1-1-0 on the season. The match was originally scheduled to be played on Sunday, but was moved to Saturday due to Tropical Storm Henri.

Severini gave Hartford a lead it would not relinquish in the 19th minute, when she got a head on a long free kick served into the box by redshirt-senior
Andrea Carina Costa Garcia. After taking a 1-0 lead into the break, the Hawks held off the Terriers, who saw their best scoring opportunity come inside the final minute of the match when Avery Gonzalez fired a shot just wide of the target.

- Severini, who found the back of the net in Hartford's season debut at Delaware State, has scored one goal in each of her two collegiate games
- St. Francis Brooklyn held a slight, 7-6 advantage in shots
- Graduate student Maia Perez made one save to earn her second shutout in as many games
- With the clean sheet victory, she pushes her career win total to 26 and her shutout total to 12
- Klil Keshwar also recorded one save between the posts for the Terriers
- The Hawks improve to 25-7-5 all-time in home openers, which includes a 9-3-5 mark under head coach John Natale
- Hartford is off to a 2-0 start for the third consecutive season, and the 11th time in program history
- The meeting marked the first between Hartford and St. Francis Brooklyn
