Jenkins Provides Heroics in Come-From-Behind, OT Win at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. — Sophomore forward Imani Jenkins provided the heroics for the Hartford women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon, scoring a pair of late goals to single-handedly propel the Hawks to a come-from-behind, 2-1 overtime win at Lafayette. Jenkins, who forced overtime on a penalty kick with less than two minutes left in regulation, found the back of the net nine seconds into the extra session to complete the comeback.

With their second straight victory, the Hawks improve to 4-1-0 on the season. Lafayette drops to 0-4-0.

HARTFORD 2, LAFAYETTE 1 (ot)
After a first half that saw a lot of play in the middle third resulted in clean scoresheet for both sides at the break, both teams picked up the offense. Lafayette, which had the better of play in the opening part of the second, capitalized on an opportunity in the 59th minute. Making a move towards the middle of the box to dodge a defender, Melissa Lamanna put the Leopards in front on a low shot to the left corner.

The Hawks began to pick up the intensity offensively, however the Leopards were up to the task each time. In the 66th minute, sophomore Kelly Severini fired a shot from point-blank range, but Lafayette keeper Lindsay Dewar made the save to keep Hartford off the board.

In the closing minutes of the match, the Hawks took advantage of a costly Leopards' foul that brought senior Taylor Brown down inside the box. Jenkins calmly connected on the ensuing penalty kick, beating Dewar with a low a shot towards the left post at the 88:05 mark to force overtime. Just nine seconds in to the extra session, Jenkins prevailed once again. Creating a turnover in Lafayette's defensive end and finding herself in a one-on-one situation against Dewar, she tucked a shot from 25-yards out to the bottom-right corner to seal the comeback.
