BOSTON — After a monstrous offensive output this past week,
Austin Williams of the Hartford men's basketball team was named the America East Player of the Week honors on Monday. The weekly distinction is the second in Williams's career, and the second for a Hawk this season.
Williams last earned Player of the Week accolades on Dec. 7, 2020. He joins
Hunter Marks as weekly award recipients this season, after Marks earned the honor on Dec. 27, 2021.
A guard, Williams averaged 24.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists in a 3-1 week for the Hawks. Highlighting the stretch of games was a career-best 34-point outing during a 75-74 overtime win against Vermont. The scoring effort was the highest offensive output for a Hawk this season, topping
Hunter Marks' 31-point effort earlier this season.
The Roseland, N.J., native followed up his performance against the Catamounts with a 21-point effort against Maine. Williams scored his 1000
th career point against the Black Bears, leading Hartford to a 75-65 victory. He continued his hot shooting from the floor, pacing the Hawks with 27 points and six rebounds at Stony Brook on Saturday. Williams wrapped up his impressive week with 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists during the 74-70 win against the Seawolves on Sunday.
Williams enters the week as the top scorer in the America East, averaging 17.4 points per game. He is also second on the team in rebounding – and 13th in the conference – hauling in 5.4 boards per game.
Hartford remains at home for a matchup with UMBC on Wednesday. Tipoff from Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion is set for 7 p.m.
