SIMSBURY, Conn. —
Jared Winiarz had a strong start to the spring season, finishing in 31
st place to lead the Hartford men's golf team at the Loyal Intercollegiate. The Hawks finished in 17
th place in their spring opener, a 54-hole event that was held at Palm Valley Golf Club early this week.

TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS & NOTES
- Winiarz finished in 31st place after carding an even 216 three-round score on the par-72 course
- He had a spectacular second round with a 70 (-2), marking the Hawks top single-round score of the tournament
- Sophomore Conor Byrne was Hartford's next golfer to score, as he tied for 58th with a 5-over 211
- Graduate student Ryan Tomaso, rounded out the top three Hawks, tying for 88th after shooting a 11-over 228
- Middle Tennessee State took home the team title after finishing one stroke ahead of Utah Valley with a team score of 835
- The tournament's top finisher also came from the Blue Raiders, as Kevin Jegers carded a 7-under 65 on Tuesday to nudge Utah Valley's Joseph Glenn, with a 16-under 200
NEXT ON TAP
The Hawks remain out west, stopping in North Bend, Ore., for the Bandon Dunes Championships. The three-day event, held at Bandon Dunes Resort, is set to start on Sunday, March 6.
