Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Hartford baseball team wrapped up its three-game series with Clemson, dropping a doubleheader against the Tigers on Saturday.

With the sweep, the Hawks fell to 0-3 on the season, while the Tigers improved to 7-0 on the campaign.

GAME ONE: CLEMSON 13, HARTFORD 3
Clemson would take an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. It wouldn't take long for the Hawks to respond, tying the game in the top half of the second. Sophomore Jake Santiago and junior Tyler Holmes would get on base before Santiago advanced to third after a wild pitch. With runners on the corners, junior Logan Cole singled through the left side, plating Santiago. Junior Martin Chavarria would tie the game in the next at bat, ripping a single up the middle, bringing home Holmes and knotting the score at 2-2. However, the Tigers would regain a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the inning. Clemson would add onto it's lead, holding a 13-2 edge entering the final inning. The Hawks would pull one back after junior Joseph Woronick scored on a wild pitch, but the deficit proved too much to overcome as Clemson took game one of the doubleheader, 13-3.

GAME TWO: CLEMSON 28, HARTFORD 3
Clemson would strike first in game two, taking another 2-0 lead after one. Cole would continue his hot day at the plate, singling into right, plating graduate student Noah Rivera and Santiago to tie the score at 2-2. However, the Tigers would jump out to a 12-2 lead after four. Kevin Koziol would pull one back for the Hawks, launching the team's first home run of the season in the top of the seventh. The deficit would prove too much however, as Clemson took game two, 28-3.
