NJIT opened the game strong, taking a 3-0 lead after the first inning. The Highlanders added onto its lead, taking a 13-0 advantage through four innings. The Hawks would get on the board in the top half of the sixth as Kevin Koziol launched a home run over the left field fence, pulling one run back for the Hawks. Hartford would look to tack on more runs in the seventh, putting runners on the corners, but the Highlanders kept the Hawks off the board.
