UMBC 8, HARTFORD 3
After UMBC took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Hawks immediately tied the game in the bottom of the second.
Devin Kellogg recorded a leadoff bunt single, stealing second in the next at-bat. An error by the UMBC third basemen allowed Kellogg to score, tying the game at 1-1. Starting pitcher
Will Nowak settled in after the opening inning, allowing only three hits and fanning six batters in 5.0 innings of work. The Hawks bats rewarded Nowak's effort on the mound, taking the lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Daniel Burnett lead off with an infield single before being moved to second after a sacrifice bunt by
Kyle Hawes. Kellogg ripped a single up the middle, putting runners on the corners, allowing
Kevin Koziol to hit a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Burnett and giving the Hawks a 2-1 lead.
Ryan Dee, who came in for Nowak in the top of the six, continued Nowak's work, preventing the Retrievers from getting back into the game. The Hawks extended its advantage to 3-1 in the bottom half of the seventh. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch saw
Logan Cole cross the plate, extending the gap for Hartford. However, UMBC responded with a five-run eighth inning, tacking on two more in the ninth to steal a 8-3 victory in the series finale.
