Fairfield started strong, taking a 4-0 lead after the first two innings. The Hawks would respond in the top half of the third, cutting the Stags lead to three. Ryan Knight led off the inning with a single to right field. With two outs, Cobb Jr. slashed a single through the right side, bringing home Knight and cutting the gap to 4-1.  However, Fairfield would respond with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take an 8-1 advantage.
