BOSTON — Three members of the Hartford men's basketball team received All-Conference awards, the America East announced Thursday. Highlighting the honorees is senior
Austin Williams, who was named to the league's First Team.
Junior
Moses Flowers and graduate student
Traci Carter rounded out the Hawks' honorees, earning spots on the All-Conference Third Team and the All-Defensive Team, respectively.
Williams takes home All-Conference honors for the second straight season in 2022, as he was a Third Team selection a year ago. In addition, he becomes the first Hawk to earn All-Conference First Team status, since
Malik Ellison garnered the honor in 2020.
Williams has emerged as an offensive powerhouse, leading the Hawks' backcourt. A native of Roseland, N.J., he is tied for second in the America East in scoring, averaging 16.4 points per game. Williams has been stellar distributing the ball as well, pacing Hartford with 3.4 steals per contest. An all-around player, he also hauled in 5.0 rebounds per contest. Earlier this season, Williams recorded his 1000
th career point, becoming the fourth active member on the roster to achieve the milestone.
In addition, Williams has netted double figures in all but two of the 25 games he has appeared in this season. His streak of 15 games was a career-best rally for the senior, besting his previous streak of 10 contests set in 2020-21 (Dec. 27 - Jan. 31). The rally was Hartford's longest since the 2018-19 season, when current Director of Operations
J.R. Lynch strung together 15 straight games in twin figures (Nov. 15 - Jan. 16). He is one of the league's most efficient shooters as well, ranking fifth in the conference with a .502 field goal percentage.
Carter takes home All-Defensive Team honors for the third straight season in 2022, as he was a Defensive Team honoree the past two seasons. He becomes the first three-peat honoree in program history and joins Vin Baker (All-First Team in 1991, 92, and 93) as the only Hawk to earn an All-Conference team accolade in three consecutive seasons.
A Philadelphia native, Carter continues to be one of the most disruptive guards in the America East. Averaging 1.8 steals per game, he ranks third in the America East. In total, he recorded 31 steals in conference play, leading the America East. His All-Defensive Team nod marks Hartford's fourth in the past five years, as Hassan Attia earned the award in 2018. In total, head coach
John Gallagher has landed six players on the team.
A native of Dorchester, Mass., Flowers earns All-Conference recognition for the second time in his career. Flowers was a member of the All-Rookie team during the 2019-20 season.
Flowers is having a career year for the Hawks in his junior season. He is averaging a career-best 14.7 points per game on 49.5 percent shooting from the floor. Flowers has been stellar on the boards, hauling in a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game, the third most in the America East this season. In conference play, he has been a disruptive force on defense, leading the conference with 1.9 steals per contest.
Earning a top-four seed in the conference for the fifth year in a row, Hartford (11-19, 9-9 AE) is set to host No. 5 UAlbany in the quarterfinals of the America East Playoffs this Sunday. Tipoff from Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion is set for 2 p.m.
