HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior
Joseph Woronick had a career day, going 3-for-4 at the plate while tallying four RBI as the Hartford baseball team fell, 11-6, to Army at Dunkin' Donuts Park this afternoon. With the result, the Hawks drop to 4-22 while Army moves to 15-16.
ARMY 11, HARTFORD 6
Army got hot early, pulling away to a 6-0 lead after the opening four innings. The Hawks would bounce back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs.
Jake Santiago led off the inning with a single down the left field line, followed by a
Daniel Burnett walk to get two runners on base. With one out, Woronick stepped up, sending a single back up the middle, plating Santiago and cutting the gap to 6-1. One batter later,
Devin Kellogg found the gap in left center, bringing home Burnett and pulling within four, 6-2.
The Black Knights would answer with four runs in the sixth, but Hartford matched Army's total in the bottom of the inning.
Derek Tenney launched a triple to left center to open the sixth frame, allowing
Tremayne Cobb Jr. to hit a ball deep into the infield to score Tenney. Santiago and Burnett would reach base again, bringing Woronick up to the plate for a crucial at-bat. The junior handled the pressure, hitting a three-run bomb over the left field fence, bringing the Hawks within four, 10-6.
However, Army would tack on one more run in the top of the seventh, and shutout the Hawks in the final three innings, taking home a 11-6 decision.
