Baseball Falls in Series Opener at UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – Graduate student Noah Rivera launches his first homerun in a Hartford uniform as the Hartford baseball team fell, 20-4, at UMass Lowell this evening. With the result, the Hawks drop to 4-23 overall and 3-10 in the America East, while the River Hawks move to 13-18 overall and 6-7 in conference play.

Hartford would take an early lead in the top half of the second. Tremayne Cobb Jr. lead off the frame with a double to left center. Two batters later, Noah Rivera launched a no-doubt homerun over the left field fence, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Daniel Burnett followed the solo bomb with a double before Kevin Koziol ripped an RBI double to the right field gap, extending the lead to 3-0. UMass Lowell would take the lead in the bottom half of the inning however, 4-3.
 
The Hawks would pull one run back in the sixth after Burnett slashed a double to center field, bringing home Joseph Woronick and cutting the deficit to 10-4. However the score proved too much for the Hawks, as UMass Lowell took home a 20-4 victory.

NEWS AND NOTES
  • Rivera launched his first homerun for Hartford
  • Burnett paced the Hawks wit ha 2-for-4 outing at the plate
  • Koziol drew a team-high two walks
  • Robert Chaney (0-2) got the start on the mound, getting the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings of work
  • Dan Cote, Julien Giroux-Harvey, Nick Gatton and James Judenis all made appearances out of the bullpen
