LOWELL, Mass. – The Hartford baseball team erased an eight-run deficit, storming back to defeat UMass Lowell, 13-12, in 10 innings on Easter Sunday.
Derek Tenney had an outstanding game, going 4-of-6 at the plate with five RBI, including the winning solo homerun in the 10th. With the result, the Hawks jump to 5-24 overall and 4-11 in the America East, while the River Hawks drop to 14-19 overall and 7-8 in conference play.
HARTFORD 13, UMASS LOWELL 12 (10 inn.)
UMass Lowell would start the game off strong, taking a 7-0 lead after the first. The Hawks wasted little time responding, answering with three runs in the top of the second.
Jake Santiago led off the inning with a double down the right field line before advancing to third on a wild pitch.
Noah Rivera drew a walk putting runners on the corners, allowing
Kevin Koziol to rip a double to the left field gap, scoring Santiago and cutting into the River Hawks lead. In the next at-bat,
Joseph Woronick singled to left, plating Rivera and making the score 7-2.
Devin Kellogg kept the run parade going, launching a sac fly, allowing Koziol to score and bring the Hawks within four, 7-3.
The River Hawks would tack one two more runs in the next two innings, setting up another three-run rally for Hartford in the seventh. With two outs, Kellogg singled up the middle, followed by a
Martin Chavarria single to put runners on the corners. Tenney came up clutch, doubling to center field, plating both runners and making the score 11-5.
Tremayne Cobb Jr. kept the two-out rally alive, singling through the right side, plating Tenney and cutting the deficit to 11-6.
Edwin Almanzar Jr., who came into the game in relief of starting pitcher
Manny Corporan in the third inning, shut down UMass Lowell's offense, allowing the Hawks to get back into the game.
Hartford would outdo themselves in the eighth, exploding for eight runs. Hartford would load the bases with their first three batters, but quickly picked up two outs. Chavarria started another crucial two out-rally for the Hawks, getting hit by a pitch to drive in a run. Tenney would provide a timely hit yet again, ripping a single to left field, plating two runs and cutting the gap to 11-9. Cobb Jr. would go on to draw a walk in the next at-bat, reloading the bases, before a wild pitch saw Chavarria score and bring the Hawks within one. Santiago followed up the wild pitch with a single to the left center gap, scoring two runs and giving the Hawks a 12-11 lead. However, UMass Lowell would tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, sending it into extra innings for the second consecutive game.
This time it would be the Hawks who took advantage of the extra frames as Tenney launched a solo homerun over the right field fence, giving Hartford a 13-12 lead. Almanzar Jr. shut down UMass Lowell once again, setting down the side in order to give the Hawks a 13-12 victory.

- Santiago also tallied two RBI on the afternoon

- Many Corporan earned the start on the mound, picking up a no decision after allowing nine runs, eight earned, on five hits in 2.0 innings of work

The Hawks remain on the road for a quick stop in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to faceoff with Marist on Tuesday. First pitch in the rematch against the Red Foxes is set for 3 p.m.
