Baseball Drops a Doubleheader to Stony Brook at Dunkin' Donuts Park

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team wrapped up its weekend series against Stony Brook this afternoon, dropping a doubleheader at Dunkin Donuts Park. After the Hawks tied the game in the bottom of the seventh forcing extra innings, the Seawolves ultimately took game one, 9-5, before taking the series finale, 7-5. The Hawks drop to 2-18 overall and 2-7 in conference play, while the Seawolves move to 12-14 overall and 7-2 in the America East.

STONY BROOK 9, HARTFORD 5
After the Hawks started yesterday's series opener strong, the Seawolves would be the ones to start off fast on Saturday. Stony Brook opened up an early lead, scoring three runs in the top of the first. The Hawks rebounded right away as Ryan Knight hit a sacrifice fly followed by a Tremayne Cobb Jr. two-run homerun tied the game. The Hawks kept the pressure on Stony Brook as starting pitcher Tim Blaisdell got hot on the mound, recording 13 consecutive outs. The Hawks' bats rewarded his stellar outing as Martin Chavarria's sac fly in the fourth gave the Hawks a 4-3 lead. However, Stony Brook took back the lead on a two-run homerun to make the score 5-4. The Hawks wouldn't go down without a fight, rallying back to force extra innings. Logan Cole had a great at bat resulting in a walk, leading to a well-placed bunt by Donnie Cohoon. Cobb Jr. doubled to left center, plating Cohoon and tying the game at 5-5 through the originally scheduled seven innings. Stony Brook would be the ones to strike first though, plating four runs in the top of the ninth. The rally proved to be too much for the Hawks as Stony Brook took home a victory in the first game of the double header, 9-5.

STONY BROOK 7, HARTFORD 5
After game one, Hartford looked to bounce back and win the series. Hartford made noise in the first inning as walks by Tenney, and Cobb Jr., followed by a single from Ben Maycock loaded the bases. In the next at-bat, Brett Anderson stepped up, drawing another walk to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Stony Brook would capitalize on Hartford errors though, taking a 3-1 lead of its own. Hartford would respond in kind in the bottom of the third. Tenney led off with a double before stealing third. Cobb Jr. followed up the opening at-bat with a single up the middle scoring Tenney, while a Maycock bunt lead to an error by the Stony Brook pitcher, scoring Cobb Jr. and tying the game at 3-3. After stellar defense in the top of the fourth, a wild pitch by the Stony Brook pitcher allowed Chavarria to reach home and give the Hawks a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth. The lead continued to flip-flop as the Seawolves regained a 5-4 advantage. Maycock would launch a solo shot over the right field fence in the seventh inning, but it ultimately proved to be not enough as Stony Brook kept their lead, taking game two, 7-5.
