BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Junior
Tremayne Cobb Jr. went 3-for-4 at the plating, recording three RBI while
Ryan Dee tossed three scoreless innings, earning the save, as the Hartford baseball team took down Sacred Heart, 6-3, this afternoon. With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-18 overall while the Pioneers drop to 4-23.
HARTFORD 6, SACRED HEART 3
It didn't take long for the Hawks to get on the board, as Hartford scored twice in the opening frame. After
Logan Cole and
Donnie Cohoon got on second and third base, Cobb Jr. doubled to right field, plating both runners and giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Hartford would go onto load the bases but were unable to add onto its early lead. The run parade continued into the top of the second Cobb Jr. cam up clutch once again. After Cohoon bunted for a single and
Brett Anderson was hit by a pitch, Cobb Jr. slashed a single to left, plating Cohoon and extending the lead to 3-0.
Starting pitcher
Alec Couture and
Edwin Almanzar Jr. were stellar on the mound, preventing Sacred Heart from getting back into the game. Couture threw the first two innings, allowing only three hits while striking out three batters, while Almanzar Jr. kept the Pioneers off the board until the sixth inning. Hartford would strike first in the sixth as an Anderson sacrifice fly brought home Cohoon, who led off the inning with a triple. Sacred Heart would respond with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning, cutting Hartford's lead to 4-1.
Hartford extended its lead immediately in the top of the seventh.
Tyler Holmes and
Noah Rivera drew back-to-back walks, but the Hawks quickly picked up two outs after Holmes was caught stealing a ground out. Hartford would not be deterred, starting a two-out rally beginning with River advancing to third on a wild pitch.
Martin Chavarria doubled down the left field line before
Logan Cole singled to right, bringing home Chavarria and increasing the advantage to 6-1. However, Sacred Heart would score two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, bringing the score to 6-3. Dee would enter in relief in the seventh, looking to pick up the save. Dee would prevent the Pioneer's from tying the game, pitching three shutout innings with three strikeouts, picking up the save and giving the Hawks a 6-3 victory.
