Baseball Falls in Series Finale, 7-5, against UAlbany

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Daniel Burnett tallied a team-high three RBI while Noah Rivera added two of his own as the Hartford baseball team fell, 7-5, in its season finale against UAlbany this afternoon. The Hawks fall to 6-27 overall and 5-13 in America East play, while the Great Danes move to 17-17 overall and 7-11 in the conference.

UALBANY 7, HARTFORD 5
The Hawks wasted little time to get on the board, putting up four runs in the opening inning. Logan Cole led off with a double down the left field line before Derek Tenney drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Jake Santiago later drew a walk, loading the bases for Rivera. Rivera came up with timely hitting, singling to left center, allowing Tenney and Cole to score and give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Burnett followed suit with a single of his own to left center, bringing home Santiago and Rivera and extending the lead to 4-0. UAlbany responded with three runs in the top of the second, cutting into the Hawks lead, 4-3, through two innings.

Starting pitcher Ryan Dee would not let UAlbany's big inning get to him, working out of a bases loaded jam without surrendering a run in the third before setting down the side in order in the fifth. Dee's efforts on the mound were rewarded in the bottom half of the fourth as Burnett launched a solo home run to left, increasing the lead to 5-3. However, the Great Danes would fire back with four runs in the top of the fifth, taking a 7-5 lead. The score line would hold as the Hawks could not overcome the deficit as UAlbany took home a 7-5 victory in the series finale.
