WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team combined for six homeruns on the afternoon, but fell, 14-5, to UMass Lowell in the series opener. Hartford drops to 8-34 overall and 7-18 in America East play, while the River Hawks move to 22-25 overall and 12-13 in the conference.

UMass Lowell would strike first, taking a 3-0 lead after the top of the second. The Hawks would waste little time responding though, as
Tremayne Cobb Jr. launched a solo homerun to left field, cutting the deficit to 3-1. However, the visitors would tack on three more runs in the third, extending the gap to 6-1. Hartford's offense would come alive in the bottom of the fourth, utilizing the long ball to their advantage. With one out,
Derek Tenney launched a solo bomb to left, cutting the gap to 6-2. Cobb Jr. was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat, allowing
Daniel Burnett to rip a two-run homerun of his own, pulling the Hawks within two, 6-4.
Ben Maycock kept the homerun parade going, sailing a solo shot to right, cutting the deficit to 6-5.
The River Hawks however would retake a 14-5 lead, holding the advantage heading into the eighth. The Hawks would not go down without a fight though, rallying back in the ninth.
Kyle Hawes would get the inning going, doubing to center field and scoring
Logan Cole, cutting the gap to 14-6. The deficit would prove too much to overcome as the Hawks fell, 14-5, in the series opener.
Donnie Cohoon would then step up to bat, launching a two-run homerun before Tenney hit his second homerun of the game, cutting the score to 14-9. However, the deficit would prove too much to overcame as the River Hawks took game one, 14-9.
