Nowak Picks Up Fourth Save as Baseball Defeats Maine, 11-9

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Tremayne Cobb Jr. anmd Derek Tenney paced the offense with four RBI to lead the Hartford baseball team past Maine, 11-9, in game two of a three-game set. Will Nowak earned his fourth save of the year, striking out the final three batters of the game. With the result, the Hawks move to 12-35 overall and 10-19 in America East Play while the Black Bears drop to 27-19 overall and 21-8 in the conference.

HARTFORD 11, MAINE 9
After Maine took a 1-0 lead after the opening inning, the Hawks wasted little time to level the score. With two outs in the bottom of the second, Devin Kellogg launched a solo shot, his second in as many games, to tie the game at 1-1. Maine would add two runs in the top half of the third to retake the lead, but the Hawks responded in kind with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Donnie Cohoon led off with a perfect bunt before Derek Tenney hit an infield single to get two runners on base. Tremayne Cobb Jr. would show off his power once again, launching a three-run homerun to give Hartford a 4-3 edge. Daniel Burnett would hit a single of his own, before advancing to second allowing Kellogg to hit an RBI double and extend the lead to 5-3. However, the Black Bears would score twice in the fourth, bringing the score to 5-5.
 
Hartford would not let the game remained tied for long, retaking the advantage in the bottom half of the fourth. Cobb Jr. would hit a single to left field, bringing home Logan Cole and retaking a 6-5 lead for the Hawks. Hartford wouldn't stop there, exploding four five runs the very next inning. With runners on the corners, Kevin Koziol ripped a single back up the middle, scoring Kellogg and extending the lead to 7-5. Cole would be hit by a pitch to load the bases, setting up Tenney who launched a grand slam, increasing the gap to 11-5 after five innings. The Black Bears would cut the lead to 11-7 though after the sixth. The score line would hold until the top of the ninth when Maine cut the gap to two after a two-run homerun, However, Will Nowak would enter the game, striking out the final three batters and securing the 11-9 victory for Hartford.
