Baseball Completes Sweep Against Maine; Clinches Spot in #AEBASE Playoffs on Senior Day

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team completed the sweep against Maine, 7-2, in its regular season finale. The game served as Senior Day for the Hawks, who clinched the No. 6 seed in the upcoming America East Playoffs with the victory. With the result, the Hawks move to 13-35 overall and 11-19 in America East Play while the Black Bears drop to 27-20 overall and 21-9 in the conference.

HARTFORD 7, MAINE 2
The game started slow, as both starting pitchers prevented either offense from getting started. However, Maine would break the deadlock in the top of the third, taking a 2-0 lead. The Hawks would waste little time answering back, firing off three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Devin Kellogg led off with an double, putting a runner in scoring position. With two outs, Donnie Cohoon stepped up, launching a two-run homerun to level the score. Derek Tenney would follow up the two-run shot with a solo bomb of his own, giving the Hawks a 3-2 lead.
 
Tenney would come up clutch again the bottom half of the fifth, ripping an RBI double to left, plating Kevin Koziol and the lead to 4-2. The Hawks pitcher's continued to shut down the Maine offense, preventing the Black Bears from putting up any more runs in the closing innings. The Hawks put the final result out of the doubt in the eighth, adding three more runs. With runner son the corners, Daniel Burnett launched a two-run triple to center field, increasing the gap to 6-2. Noah Rivera would put the final nail in the coffin one at-bat later, singling back up the middle, scoring Burnett and moving the score to 7-2. Will Nowak would shut down the Black Bears in the ninth, completing the sweep against Maine, 7-2, and clinching a spot in the America East Playoffs.
