Hawks Combine for Four Home Runs; Drops Midweek Game to CCSU

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team combined for four homeruns and mounted a late comeback, scoring six runs in the ninth, but ultimately fell to local foe CCSU, 14-9. With the result, the Hawks fall to 6-32 overall while the Blue Devils move to 22-12.

CCSU 14, HARTFORD 9
The early portion of the game started out as a pitchers' duel, with neither team's starter allowing the offense to get going. Ryan LaPierre was on fire on the mound, setting down the first nine CCSU batters. The Blue Devils would be the first to strike though, taking a 1-0 lead after four innings. The Hawks looked to quickly answer back, as Noah Rivera and Daniel Burnett both got on base in the bottom half of the fourth. However, CCSU would leave Rivera and Burnett stranded on base before extending their lead to 3-0 after the fifth frame.

After the Blue Devils took a 9-0 edge into the bottom of the seventh, the Hawks bats came alive. After two quick outs, Ben Maycock launched a homerun to right to cut into CCSU's lead. Brett Anderson followed up the solo shot by getting on base after an error, allowing Tyler Holmes to come to the plate and smash a no-doubt two-run homerun over the left field fence, decreasing the deficit to 9-3. The Hawks would not go down without a fight, exploding for six runs in the bottom of the ninth. Brett Anderson launched the Hawks third homerun of the day to start off the inning. Martin Chavarria followed it up with a double to left, bringing up Kevin Koziol who brought him home with a single. The Hawks would continue its two-out magic, loading the bases, setting up Burnett. Burnett would come up clutch, launching a bomb over the left field fence, hitting a grand slam and cutting the gap to 14-9.

However, the deficit would ultimately prove too much, as CCSU escaped with a 14-9 victory.
