Men's Golf Lands Three Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. — A trio of Hartford men's golf team members were tabbed as Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced. Former graduate student Ryan Tomaso, recent graduate Jared Winiarz and rising junior Conor Byrne took home the distinction for the Hawks.

To be eligible for the All-American Scholar award, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically, must have a stroke average under 76.00, maintain a cumulative career GPA of at least 3.2 and participate in 50 percent of the team's competitive rounds.

Tomaso earns Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar distinction from the GCAA for the third time in as many years in 2022. The Milford, Mass., native is coming off an impressive season the links for the Hawks, as he posted the lowest stroke average on the team after recording a 73.76 over 26 rounds. Leading Hartford at four events, Tomaso's season was highlighted by a fifth-place finish at the Hartford Invitational at Wintonbury Hills. He recently graduated with his MBA this past May.

Winiarz, a native of Norton, Mass., received his second All-America Scholar nod in a row. Competing in 10 events for the Hawks this past season, he posted a career-best 74.59 stroke average over 27 rounds. He paced the Hawks with seven rounds of par or better, including a season-best single round score of 69 at the Ryan Lee Memorial Collegiate. Winiarz's senior season was highlighted by an eighth-place finish at the Hartford Hawks Invitational at Bulls Bridge.  A marketing major, he took home Big Sky All-Academic Team honors earlier this week.

Byrne garnered All-America Scholar honors for the first time in his career. A native of Strabane, Northern Ireland, he enjoyed an incredible sophomore season, posting the second lowest stroke average on the team with a 73.93 mark. He also posted the lowest score in a round for the Hawks, shooting a 67 at the LIU Shark Invitational. Bryne also posted the Hawks best result at the Shark Invitational, finishing in third place. A business major, he was also named to the Big Sky All-Academic Team earlier this week.

During his tenure as head coach, Pete Stankevich has landed 19 GCAA All-America Scholars.

As a team, the Hawks saw four student-athletes named to the Big Sky All-Academic Team. Joining Byrne and Winiarz in earning the distinction was Michael Amari, and Bryce Zimmerman.
