Men's Soccer Falls to CCSU in Season Opener

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Hartford men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback in their season opener at CCSU on Thursday. The Hawks move to 0-1 on the young season while the Blue Devils improve to 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a slow start to the game as neither side generated a goal scoring opportunity in the opening 15 minutes. The Blue Devils would test goalkeeper Rotem Fadida in the 25th minute, but the long-distance effort did not trouble Fadida, who made the easy save. However, the Blue Devils would open the scoring five minutes later, taking a 1-0 lead, and carried the advantage into the halftime break.

CCSU would find the back of the net again early on in the second half, doubling its advantage in the 49th minute. Fadida would come up big a few moments later, stopping a low shot to his right to prevent the Blue Devils from extending the gap. However, CCSU would score in the 63rd minute to take a 3-0 edge. Alex Quinones looked to pull one back for the Hawks seven minutes later, but his point blank rage effort was denied by an outstanding save from the CCSU goalkeeper.

The Hawks would be reduced to 10 men in the 72nd minute as Quinones was shown his second yellow card of the match, resulting in a red card. The Blue Devils would take advantage of the extra man, netting their fourth goal of the match in the 79th minute. The defeicit would prove too much for the Hawks as the Blue Devils took home a 4-0 victory.
