Hawks Play Riverhawks to 1-1 Draw at Al-Marzook Field

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford women's soccer team battled UMass Lowell to a 1-1 draw on Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium Sunday. The Hawks extend their unbeaten streak to four and move to 5-1-1 on the season, while the Riverhawks move to 2-4-2 on the year.

Sophomore goalkeeper Abigail McCarthy was put to work early inside the net, making an outstanding point blank save off of a header in the eighth minute to keep the game scoreless. Junior forward Imani Jenkins gave the Hawks the first lead of the game in the 29th minute, capitalizing on a perfect through ball dished out by senior forward Makaela Montgomery-Williams. Less than a minute later, Jenkins nearly doubled the Hartford lead, sailing a shot just high of the net. McCarthy held the Riverhawks off the board in the first half, making five saves on eight shots faced. 
 
Coming out into the second half, McCarthy recorded another unbelievable save in the 46th minute, tipping a shot over the crossbar to preserve the Hawks 1-0 advantage. The Hartford defense stood tall throughout the middle part of the second half, blocking a pair of shots in front of the net to keep the UMass Lowell scoreless. The Riverhawks found a way to breakthrough late in the 84th minute when Dunja Mostarac scored on a header off of a free kick from Chaima Khammar. Despite the late score from UMass Lowell, Hartford would hold on to preserve the 1-1 draw.
