Hawks Make it Three Wins in a Row in 3-0 Victory Over NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. – The Hartford women's soccer team posted its second clean sheet of the season in its 3-0 victory over NJIT Thursday night. The Hawks extend their winning streak to three games and improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Highlanders fall to 1-2-4.

HARTFORD 3, NJIT 0
The Hawks offense went to work early on, lighting up the scoreboard in the eighth minute after senior forward Makaela Montgomery-Williams looped a shot over the NJIT netminders diving reach for the first goal of the game. In a six-minute stretch after Hartford took an early 1-0 lead, sophomore goalkeeper Abigail McCarthy denied the Highlanders offensive front, facing seven shots and stopping them all to keep NJIT off the board. After the peppering of shots in Hartford's defensive end, senior midfielder Ishani Sharma responded scoring her first goal of the season off of a deflection in front of the net. The Hawks would take a comfortable 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Through the first 20 minutes of the second half, Hartford and NJIT went back-and-forth with possession throughout the middle third of the field. However, in the 74th minute, junior captain Christina Stone blasted a turnaround unassisted goal into the back of the net. The midfielder would receive a pass from junior Imani Jenkins and stride into the box twisting around defenders and putting the Hawks up by three to seal the 3-0 win over NJIT.
