Pavlidis with career-high 19 points in loss

BALTIMORE, MD – The University of Hartford men's basketball team fell to Morgan State Wednesday, 92-84, at the Hill Fieldhouse.

A 16-2 second-half Morgan State run enabled the Bears to extend its three-point halftime lead to double figures. The lead grew to as much as 15, but following a Braxton Jones three-pointer with 58 seconds remaining – the Hawks trailed by just seven. However, MSU was able to seal the game at the free throw line. 

Michael Dunne came out blistering connecting on his first three shots, all three-pointers, as Hartford scored nine of the first 11 points. He finished 4-of-10 from beyond the arc for 17 points. 

Morgan State continued to chip away at the Hartford lead, and with the help of some transition offense, the Bears took the lead. It was the start of seven different lead changes in the first half. Hartford fell down by as much as nine points before scoring nine of the next 12 points to get back to within three – its halftime deficit. 

Briggs McClain once again led the team in scoring with 21 points, his third consecutive 20-point performance. Pano Pavlidis finished with a career-high 19 points and with team-high six rebounds.

Kurtis Henderson was the fourth player in double figures, tallying 13 points and a team-high four assists.

  • Pavlidis has now reached double figures in six games this season, including both Morgan State contests.
  • McClain has scored at least 15 points for the eleventh time this season. He has reached the 20-point mark for the seventh time this season. 
  • After making five of their first eight three-pointers, Hartford hit just one of its next 14 attempts. 
  • Three players – McClain, Dunne, and Kurtis Henderson – played at least 34 minutes. 
  • All seven players that played at least five minutes recorded an assist and a rebound.

Hartford returns to the Reich Family Arena 7 p.m. Monday, hosting the University of Pennsylvania. It will be the first of five consecutive home games.
