Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Henderson tallies career-high as Hawks snap skid

The University of Hartford men's basketball team held Stonehill to just five points over the last 8:29 to snap their 11-game losing streak with a 73-56 win Wednesday inside the Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion.

While the end of the game was the ultimate deciding factor, the end of the first half is when the game ultimately changed. Trailing by as much as 13, the Hawks closed the first half with nine consecutive points to trail by just four points at the break.

Kurtis Henderson was the primary culprit in the run, scoring seven of the nine points en route to a career-high 19 points. The spurt was imperative to Hartford's success as the Skyhawks seemingly couldn't miss in the first half, making 50 percent from the floor and 53.8 percent from three-point range.

The spurt also enabled the Hawks to overcome 13 first-half turnovers. Hartford only committed six turnovers in the second half.

Stonehill briefly pushed the lead to eight points at the first media timeout, but Hartford began to chip away. Coming out of the break, shots started to fall and the defense began to stiffen as the Hawks scored 14 of the next 16 points.

Pano Pavlidis scored, at one point, six consecutive points during the run as two other players found the scoring column.

The Skyhawks had one last gasp in them to pull even, but a 10-0 run swung all the momentum to the white-clad Hawks and Hartford was able to secure the victory.

Briggs McClain added 15 points with five assists, four rebounds, a steal, and a block, while Pavlidis recorded 13 points and seven rebounds.
