DUDLEY, MASS. – In a hotly contested match-up, the University of Hartford volleyball team fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Nichols in four sets, 25-19, 28-26, 23-25, 25-21, Wednesday inside the Nichols Athletic Center.
Midway through the first set, the Bison seized control of the match by scoring nine of 10 points to take a seven-point edge. While Hartford had a spurt of its own, it didn't get closer than three points in dropping the opening set.
Hartford has several opportunities to close out the second set, but ultimately, Nichols sealed the win with the final two points.
The Hawks scored the first six points of the third set and held the lead until NC was able to pull even at 22. However, a kill by
Isabella Labrada secured the set victory.
Nichols scored 11 of the last 14 points in the fourth set to secure the match victory.
INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES
- Freshman Zahara Quraishi was the only Hartford hitter with double-digit kills, finishing with 22 on 46 attempts for a .239 hitting percentage. She has tallied double digits in kills eight times this season, including four straight. She also three matches with at least 20 kills.
- Sophomore Kylee Connally finished with a team-high 15 assists.
- Freshman Liahnna Orange added a team-high nine digs with nine assists, four service aces, and three kills on three attempts.
- Freshman Jenna Murphy had five blocks - two solo and three block assists, while graduate Hannah Pena added three blocks and four kills.

Hartford (3-7) travels to play Amherst 2 p.m. Saturday.
