Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – The Hartford men's basketball season came to an end Sunday with a 75-53 loss to Chicago State inside the Jones Convocation Center.
Chicago State used an 11-2 run midway through the second half to open up its first double-digit lead of the game. The combination of second-chance points and free throws fueled the CSU run which ultimately changed the trajectory of the contest.
Michael Dunne's three-pointer as the first-half buzzer sounded gave Hartford just its second lead (35-34) of the first half and its first since it was 5-3 early in the proceedings.
Hartford trailed by as much as seven over the first 20 minutes but never allowed the Cougars to get comfortable with a steady stream of changing defenses and timely shooting. An early seven-point deficit was met with a 9-2 spurt as Matt Hobbs, Kurtis Henderson, and Pano Pavlidis connected on consecutive three-pointers to pull even.
However, the Hawks couldn't reclaim the lead as Chicago State continued to find ways to stay ahead – that is until the aforementioned Dunne three-point that capped off the first half.
Unfortunately, the momentum from the shot didn't come out of the locker room as Hartford was outscored 41-18 in the second half.
