TEANECK, N.J. – The Hartford women's lacrosse team remains undefeated after defeating Fairleigh Dickinson, 13-12, on Saturday. The Hawks improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Knights drop to 0-5 on the year.
HARTFORD 13, FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON 12
Hartford opened up the scoring in the contest by taking a 2-0 lead after goals from
Kelly Hoxie and
Meghan Smith. Fairleigh Dickinson would respond with two goals of its own, tying the game up at two apiece with less than a minute to play in the opening frame. In the waning seconds of the first,
Lily Belle Baker found the back of the net to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead heading into the second.
Four different goal scorers including
Lenaijah Ferguson,
Emily Steele, Baker and Smith combined to outscore the Knights 6-2 in the second quarter to take a 9-4 advantage into the halftime break.
FDU came out of the locker room strong, opening up second half of action on 6-0 run to take a 10-9 lead with 14:31 remaining in regulation. Less than 90 seconds after the lead-changing goal, Smith would score her fourth goal of the contest on a free position attempt to tie the game at 10. The Hawks would tack three more goals on the board to take a one goal lead with just over four minutes remaining in the contest. Despite the Knights' late push to mount a comeback,
Hanna Ramsey and the Hawks defense would hold on to earn the 13-12 victory.
