WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team dropped its midweek matchup to Stonehill, 12-6, on Tuesday. The Hawks fall to 1-9 on the season while the Skyhawks improve to 2-12 on the year.
STONEHILL 12, HARTFORD 6
Stonehill wasted little time jumping out to an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first. However, Hartford would immediately respond with three runs in the bottom half of the opening frame to take its first lead of the contest at 3-1. Fueling the Hawks run was
Michael Alvarez who laced a two-run double down the left field line to bring home both
JJ Romatzick and
Devin Kellogg.
Derek Benzinger followed the Alvarez double digging out an infield single to the shortstop to drive home
Noah Rivera. With Hartford now leading 3-1, Stonehill would respond with one run in the second and two in the fourth to regain its lead at 4-3. Romatzick would continue the back-and-forth scoring in the bottom of the fourth, lifting a sacrifice fly out to left field to drive home Benzinger and tie the game up at four apiece. However, Stonehill would regain its early momentum scoring six runs in the sixth before tacking on two more in the seventh to take a commanding 12-4 lead into the latter third of the game. Despite the late effort to mount a comeback the Skyhawks advantage grew too much for the Hawks to overcome, eventually falling, 12-6.
