HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team came up short in its comeback effort against Yale on Wednesday night. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-21 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 10-16 on the year.
YALE 8, HARTFORD 4
Ryan Knight kicked off the Hawk's scoring with a bang in the bottom of the first, blasting a solo shot over the right field wall for the contest's opening run. However, Yale would respond with a run of its own in the top of the third to tie the game up at one apiece before Knight's bat gave the Hawks back the lead at 2-1 after the bottom half. Knight lifted a sacrifice fly out to center field, allowing
Martin Chavarria to race home and score after reaching base earlier in the inning on an infield single to first base.
The Bulldog's offense would gain momentum in the fourth, plating three runs to take a 4-2 lead, before tacking on one more in the fifth and sixth innings. With Yale holding a four-run edge on the scoreboard midway through the seventh, Hartford would close within two runs heading into the eighth.
JJ Romatzick launched a triple off the left field wall to score
Jackson Ciccone before Chavarria followed with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Romatzick from third on the play. However, that is as close as the Hawks would get, as the Bulldogs tacked on two more in the eighth, taking the victory over Hartford at Dunkin' Park, 8-4.
