FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team dropped its series opener at Fairfield, 14-4, on Friday. The Hawks drop to 2-22 on the season with the loss, while the Stags improve to 19-12 on the year.
FAIRFIELD 14, HARTFORD 4
Hartford wasted little time opening the scoring as
Harrison Engstrom launched a solo home run over the left-field fence on just the Fairfield's starter's fourth pitch of the game. However, the Stags would immediately respond in the bottom half of the first with three runs to take a 3-1 lead after the opening frame. Fairfield would keep their momentum rolling, tacking on four runs in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth, and two more in the sixth to take a commanding 13-1 lead into the seventh. The Hawks would pull three runs back in the top of the seventh after a two-run blast off the bat of
Joseph Woronick and bases loaded two-out walk drawn by
Ryan Melendez. However, the Fairfield lead grew to be too much for Hartford to overcome, as the Hawks eventually fell 14-4.
