Late Rally Falls Short as Hawks Drop, 2-1, Decision at Maine

ORONO, Maine – The Hartford baseball came up short, 2-1, to Maine in game two of a three-game set Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks drop to 2-27 on the season, while the Black Bears improve to 20-12 on the year.

MAINE 2, HARTFORD 0
After Maine started scoring in the first and second innings with two solo home runs, Hartford starter Robert Chaney would settle in on the mound, allowing no runs on three hits over the next four innings of work.

With the Hawks trailing by two heading into the seventh inning, Joe Dooley would enter the game in relief for Chaney, looking to keep Maine off the board. Dooley set down the side in order in the bottom of the seventh before holding the Black Bears scoreless in the eighth, giving his offense a chance to mount a comeback in the ninth.

In the top of the ninth, Harrison Engstrom would reward his pitcher's efforts by cutting the gap to 2-1 with a solo blast over the left field fence. However, the lead-off home run would not be enough for the Hawks as they eventually fell to the Black Bears, 2-1.
