AMHERST, Mass. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Hartford baseball team dropped a 9-2 decision at UMass. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-29 on the season, while the Minutemen improve to 7-25 on the year.
UMASS 9, HARTFORD 2
The Minutemen wasted little time getting the scoring started, plating three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 3-0 lead. UMass would continue its momentum, adding a run on the board in the third before tacking on two more in the sixth to take a 6-0 edge into the seventh.
The Hawks would reach the scoring column in the top of the seventh after
JJ Romatzick came around to score on a
Martin Chavarria ground out to second base. Romatzick led off the inning with a single into right field before advancing to third base on a wild pitch.
However, the Minutemen would immediately respond with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Despite pulling one run back in the ninth off an RBI single from
Devin Kellogg, the UMass advantage proved too much for the Hawks to overcome, eventually falling 9-2.
