The University of Hartford men's basketball team fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Endicott, 74-57, Saturday inside the Chase Family Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion.
Â
After a pair of free throws to pull Hartford to within two points on the first possession of the second half, Endicott went on a 21-4 run to build a 19-point lead.
Â
Despite the large deficit, the Hawks attempted to mount a comeback. Hartford scored 15 of the next 22 points, capped by a freshman
Henry Herman three-pointer, and the deficit was down to 11 with a shade over nine minutes remaining.
Â
Unfortunately, the Gulls would be a final run together – pushing the lead back to 20 points before cruising to the win.
Â
The start of the first half was much like the beginning of the second as Endicott scored 10 of the first 12 points of the game. Undeterred, Hartford clawed back into the game, and following a three-pointer by graduate
Trayon Rumley, the Hawks had their lone lead of the game.
Â
However, the lead was short lived as Endicott responded with a three-point play on the very next possession.
Â
Freshman
Stephen Akwiwu finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. Three other players reached double figures as freshman
Jaylen Brown tallied a career-high 12 points, followed by Rumley (11 points) and Herman (10 points).
Â
Freshman
Joshua Petion led the team with three assists, while Rumley had a team-high three steals.
