Stone's Hat Trick Leads Hawks Over University of New England 5-1

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford women's soccer team extended its winning-streak to five games on Saturday cruising to a 5-1 win over the University of New England. Graduate students Imani Jenkins (Middletown, Conn.) and Christina Stone (Glastonbury, Conn.) were honored before the game for the career goal and assist program records they both broke. Stone continued to shine on the field scoring a hat-trick in the win.

Rapid Recap:
  •  The Hawks struck first in the 6th minute as Jenkins found Stone on a give-and-go move to net the opening strike in the match. Graduate student May Cervone (Milford, Conn.) had the next chance in the 10th minute, but Anna Flaherty made the stop for the Nor'easters. Stone added the second goal of the match in the 20th minute, heading in a corner from sophomore Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.). The Hawks would get five more shots on the University of New England in the first half, but they did not hit the back of the net as Hartford took a 2-0 lead into the break.
  •  Jenkins kicked off the second half burying her 17th goal on a fancy assist by Cervone to push the lead to 3-0. Just five minutes later Hartford extended the lead further as sophomore Reese Sadler (Newington, Conn.) tapped in a corner from Stone with another assist for junior Rebecca Opdenbrouw (Vernon, Conn.). In the 60th minute the Nor'easters would finally score as Tori Keyes chested in a goal form Kylie Curtin. Hartford added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute as Stone danced on the endline before firing a shot into the back of the net as the Hawks pulled away with the 5-1 win.
Post Game Press:
"I think things are finally starting to piece things together", said graduate student Christina Stone (Glastonbury, Conn.). "We feel like we're getting better in training we're working hard. We're putting in the hours and I think it's just starting to pay off at the right time. We are just one game at a time so you know this was a great win today, but we're already focused on Wednesday."
