Hawks Win-Streak Hits Six After Defeating Western New England University

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Hartford women's soccer team continued its winning ways on Wednesday defeating Western New England University by a 3-1 final in a Conference of New England (CNE) match up. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks struck first in the 13th minute as sophomore Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) pushed a beautiful left-footed shot past the diving Golden Bears keeper to take the lead. Three minutes later Hartford doubled the score as graduate student Imani Jenkins (Middletown, Conn.) bested the defense finishing her 18th goal of the season. Junior Mayson Massaro (Sarasota, Fla.) had the next chance in the 27th minute with a good save by Molly McLaughlin. Brynn Murphy had the best chance for the Golden Bears in the 34th minute missing wide of the target as the Hawks took the 2-0 lead into the break. 
  • The Hawks stayed on the attack missing the back of the net six times in the opening nine minutes of the second quarter. Stephanie McKenna cut the deficit in half in the 55th minute. The Hawks continued to dominate the run of play taking the next four shots, before graduate student Christina Stone (Glastonbury, Conn.) put the game away with her sixth goal of the season as Hartford picked up the 3-1 win.

"Good team win tonight", said graduate student Imani Jenkins (Middletown, Conn.). "We stayed composed and battled for 90 minutes. Two more games left of the regular season and we have our eyes set on the championship. We are in a good spot and we are moving forward in the right direction!"

Inside the Numbers:
  • Jenkins netted her CNE leading 18th goal of the season while also getting credited for her sixth game-winner. Brush picked up her 8th goal of the year, while Stone got her 6th of the year.
  • Junior Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.) got the win pushing her record to 9-3-2 on the season. 
  • The Hawks out shot the Golden Bears by a 24-3 margin with a 12-1 on target differential. 
  • Hartford currently sits in the two seed of the CNE Playoff Picture with 16 points trailing Gordon College who is 5-0-2 in the CNE with 17 points. 
Up Next:
Hartford will have senior day on Saturday hosting Wentworth Institute of Technology with a 12:00 p.m. start.
